I guess they got tired of flamers hating on every little thing they did. Or the maintenance could just be more than they want to deal with.

Maintenance was getting high probably due to site traffic and hosting costs for all the images that have been uploaded over the years. I also saw a price increase too for starter packs.

Plus all the rules questions and such on there are for 2nd edition. Might as well wipe the slate clean to get rid of some potential confusion.

Splitting the community isn't going to get rid of the confusion though. Now there's going to be flame wars of
"But Datasphere says <something>! N! WarCars says <not-something>" and then we get to watch the children complain

Spanish equivalent to data sphere. They're shutting down the Spanish forum as well

it will be interesting when the data-sphere site crashes and no one can get their forum fix for a day or so... the blame game will come down hard. I know all about that, managing 128 distributed applications.

I guess they got tired of flamers hating on every little thing they did. Or the maintenance could just be more than they want to deal with. Isn't that just Guges? But I guess it could be all the "what's up with the forum" chaps too. Maintenance, I can believe. As the game gets more popular, the site (and forums) get more traffic. However, it kills their rep as being in touch with the playerbase.

He's not the only one. I don't think its that necessary to keep the forum to keep in touch with the player base. They've already switched to social media and giving tidbits to various gaming "media" outlets. I stopped promoting local events on there after we set up the google group. It just wasn't worth it.

Twitter and FB are not "keeping in touch."
The forums actually had questions answered by CB staff, which was nice.
I can't see Twit, or FB providing the same kind of access/response.
That, and announcing a price increase at the same time was remarkably like a GW maneuver...

It wasn't that often that they answered questions. More often than not it's someone who emailed them , which can still happen. I think they fully intend third edition to be a much clearer rule set and hopefully it won't require as much clarification.
