I was wonder how this works? Would just one partner need to be in retreat or both? Or the combined points trigger the retreat?

So if i run a tag in a 200 list, and you kill that tag chances are ill retreat turn 1... and the game ends.

That's pretty much how everyone is currently interpreting it, yes. It makes those Objective Points per round missions like Quadrant Control kinda hard to score many points in 2s, sometimes even giving the one who went into retreat the win if they already control more quadrants than you at the end of your turn (if you went second).
It's one of the things people aren't as fond of from however much I've actually read about the topic. It's even a bit of an issue in singles for those missions, but it's more prominent in doubles, IMO.

It stops people from straight up murdering the opponent while ignoring objectives then claiming objective points. Instead now you have to straight up murder your opponnent while taking as many objectives as possible and leaving them crippled but not in retreat for turn 2 (or maybe even 3)

The problem with the team tourney is you go into retreat when only one of the teammates goes int retreat. So only 60% of half the army forces retreat Stoopid

Yeah, you can really hamstring a game by focusing on just one teammember. Then retreat becomes really 30% of your combined points total.
