What do you think of taking a little pressure off ourselves next year by inviting guys to bring their own terrain to fill up a 4x4 table and then have a contest for best table? This could be voted on by all the players or we can have judging. Judging though would take finding impartial judges to do it. So I thought maybe we could ask companies like Warsenal, Burned-in, and others to do the judging and maybe help with price support. Makes sense you win terrain right?
Some criteria to follow:
*Painting
*Playability (For example that one table that was provided by that one company looked fantastic but it was hell to play on)
*Creativity (this could be anything from conversions to scratch built stuff)
I’m not sure what else.

Nope.
Someone's stuff gets broke and someone has a fit not worth it.

What Angron said. Too much drama potential.

ya I think just an army comp with display boards would be fine to let people show off their creativity if they want.

I doubt they would even bring it if they were so worried about their terrain breaking a bit.
There's not already drama?
Displays are cool but I think it would be cool to show off terrain people like to work on. I've come to like making terrain as much as doing figs or playing the game.

Nowhere near the drama that occurs in other major tournament systems. Infinity is so drama-free it's refreshing.
In fact, the only drama I witnessed at Adepticon was about terrain tables, and involved actual companies, and not specific players.

Oh that drama. That was more a misunderstanding than anything else.

Well, then scratch that--no drama at all at Adepticon.
Just a misunderstanding between terrain companies.

My problem with any soft comp scores or prizes I'd that people inevitably get butt hurt. Players when they lose on games blame the system or themselves. When they lose at comp, painting and such they blame the judges. Just complimenting your opponents and as judges pointing out to the players what you like , be it army composition or painting is enough. moondoggy. I'm REALLY against any thing that has to do with display bases becoming a sanctioned part of events. Did you happen to see how ridiculous things get on the. 40k side. We don't have the gaming space for that. That said I could see something being done for the team tourney alone and even that being a slippery slope going forward.

Yes I have seen the team bases from 40K I have seen it grow from what it was at the first adepticon to what it is now. I think it is great for the hobby to have something like that. I am not saying make it part of every event I think it would be fun to have one event though that was not an ITS event that would let people show off their hobby skills and just what they can do. With third ed coming out this year who knows what they will do to the never used merc list as it is not but I think having an event where people can make a custom force custom display base and anything else to go with it could be allot of fun for people that love the hobby aspect of the game and will do nothing but let it grow. We can always restrict display basses to a 12" x 12" board and no more that 24" tall if we want but I think it would be a fun thing to put out their for people to do.

I think that since terrain is so important to Infinity it should get a bit more of an appreciation. Something more than just a "hey good job".

The more I thought about the terrain contest and I think one it takes away a bit from an event to ask people to bring terrain and can be hard to manage for game play ability. I know allot of people helped get great tables together this year for Adepticon and you guys all did a great job. That said I think if we wanted we could do a terrain contest if we wanted but I think it would have to be run almost as a reverse event. What I mean by that is run it mainly as a club event just for people in Chicago that are helping put the event together to inspire everyone to make one or more really cool playable boards. Over that time the boards can be play tested shown to each other and we can make sure that they all work ok. Then at the con let the players rate their favorite boards on various things and what they did or did not like about them and have the atendeas vote on the boards for various things such as look playability theam or things like that. then all the lossers can buy the winners drinks or something and we could get some good feedback on what people did or did not like about the boards for next year.
Just an idea.

So just something among ourselves? That's not a bad idea.
