I wish I could report that I am headed to Spain next year. I am not. The tournament was tight---very tight. The overall winner (who was actually undefeated--not just first, but never lost a single game in 4 days of tournaments) won with only 20 points. That's a hellaciously low number. There was a 3 way tie for 2nd with 19 points. I was in contention for first place in the last round after Magno (who ended up 4th) and Bloodgod (the overall winner) had a very fast game when BG forgot that he should stop killing Magno's troops. I needed a perfect game in the last mission (Antenna Field) playing against a MRRF army with an Anaconda. Mentally trying to calculate the points he had, I vaporlocked and completely forgot about one very important thing. Duroc. I got Duroc'd in the first turn (after stupidly taking the initiative and going first--not the mission for that) and ended up in LoL. Game went downhill from there. I ended up (thanks to that horrific match) 7th overall. Ugh. Still, the games were good, the pace was furious (only a little slow playing in the last game by my opponent, because he vapor-locked when the Uberfall Kommando ended up in his backfield in turn 1). The best game (although I lost) was against Magno in the first round. We brought almost the same identical army (save for a few loadouts). It was eerie, and a close game overall. Came down to lifeblood crate being opened/destroyed. And since all but 1 crate was on his side of the field. (with the damn beacon race room in the center of the board...) I don't feel too bad about that. Lifeblood still is a mission where going first usually means you win. I didn't go first.

Twenty after three rounds? Wow! Good to see if was tight so that no one snuck in without the chops to be there. Now to have it held here. Valiant effort good sir , I'm sure you've already flogged yourself thoroughly, so no need for us to do it.

I think the best part is that there was no bad blood, no trying to game opponents. Lots of good, fast playing and good sportsmanship.
The guy who took last didn't play badly, but was absolutely cursed when it came to dice rolling. That dice-shaming meme on FB? He should totally do that to his dice. Publicly and often.
I've never seen someone throw so many 17+'s to hit, and so many 1-5's to save. Ever.

I'd be game.
One thing that I was discussing with Bill & Jay were the qualifications for the invitational--specifically ranking. They're looking at maybe doing something different next year, or putting the cut-off earlier in the year so as not to have the frenzied confusion we had this year.
Still, for the first year--this was amazingly well run.
