Dragon Fall has space for 40+ person Infinity event Oct 4th

Hey guys I am helping my buddy with a Con he is starting up this year called Dragon Fall and he just opened up at least 20 tables that I can used for an infinity tournament on Sunday October 4th at the Marriot in Naperville just off of I88. We should be able to get even more tables if enough people pre reg. I know there is an ITS event the week before in Milwaukee so I was thinking of running an non Its even at the con for fun as opposed to another ITS event I wanted to get some people feedback though. Would people be more interested in another ITS even or the non ITS event I have listed the rules for bellow. It looks like the cost of the even would be a total of $25 either way I go. It would be ten dollars for a con badge that includes a beer glass and shot glass and then 15 dollars for the infinity event.

Any feedback would be great and let me know of anything you think should be changed if I do run the non ITS listed below at some point thanks.

NON ITS EVENT Moondoggy’s Midnight Madness Big Brass Ball Challenge

This is a NON ITS tournament as such there are several changes though it will use ITS scenarios
1 – This will not be a Swiss style pairing tournament it will be a round robin. This means you will be paired randomly each of the three rounds.
2 – The three scenarios we will play in order will be
        1- Nimbus Zone
        2- Transmission Matrix
        3- Highly Classified
3 - You will make up one list for each scenario and the 3 lists will have the fallowing restrictions
        1- Combined your 3 lists may not exceed 100pts
        2- Each list must be between 200 and 400 points but as above the 3 combined may not exceed 1000pts
        3- There will be spec ops. You can have a total of 3 spec ops for all 3 games spread out how you like. You have a total of 36XP to spend between your specs op how you like. This means you could have 1 spec ops in only one list with 36xp or 3 specs ops with 12xp each with 2 in one list and one in another or however you like but you cannot have more than 3 with no more than 36 XP in the total of your 1000pts

4 - There may be a wide variety of terrain and we may be using area affect terrain rules on some of the boards so come prepared to fight in any sort of terrain or board.

5 - No whining – This is a big brass ball tournament meant to test how good a general you are! Hence your 200 pt. non spec op force may hit a 400pt force with spec ops suck it up and show how bloody can you make him this is what legends are made of if you find a way to win.

6 - Have fun – More than anything this is to have a good time and have fun so roll dice have some drinks move some minis and have some fun.

Some thoughts,

Overall, I like the idea. Almost as much as I love John's breakthrough, genius idea that spawned the Midwest Massacre.

Restricting the lists to be between 200 and 400 points flies in the face of having a "1000 point total" tournament. (Also, 200 + 200+ 400 is only 800) You should let people play between 100 and 700 points per round. That would be hilarious.

Why can't this be ITS?

Get rid of the Spec Ops. They are impossible to track in a tournament and annoying. This type of tourney will be hard enough to track without these.

People must pre-submit their lists with how many points they are playing each round so it will be a huge surprise.

Transmission matrix and Nimbus zone are "less than ideal" choices for this type of tourney

Generally, this kind of tourney does not attract lots of whiners.

It can not be ITS because if you under army list rules for an ITS even each player brings 2 different army list and picks what one they want to play each game. so it would be non ITS.

I think the 100 pt to 700 pt is to big of a dispersion of points 200 on 400 would be hard enough hence one reason I put in spec ops you could try to bring a small force but suplement it with spec ops. I like the Idea of a 400 point list with no spec ops taking on a 200 point heavy spec op force. If everyone thinks this is to much or to wild let me know I do not mind policing it though. I would maybe adjust the points some but not to 100 to 700.

I will look at the missions more if people have sugestions let me know. I wont be doing any with the central room though as that is to much to set up. Also I did not want to do any of the ones having to do with point values as I think everyone would just load up points for those. Any thoughts are welcome though as that is why I am posting to get ideas and refine the idea

I think Swiss is the way to go. Beside the scoring of the missions being somewhat reliant on that system, it'll give players an opportunity to plan an overall strategy for their points played at each mission. For example overload on points the first two rounds and attempt to coast into a win on the third round.

Not being ITS is fine.

To make the format clear

How about saying
You have a pool of 1000 points to spend over three rounds. Each round 200 points minimum must be spent. You must submit your lists for each round ahead of time. Players are forced to play to the missions and hope their opponent don't end up overwhelming them. I think you'll end up getting q bunch of 350,350,300 point setups.

If you want disparity in the games you could mandate they players have to choose 200, 300, 400 and decide ahead of time which mission they are bringing which point level to.

Some good points thanks I may switch it to Swiss Style my only fear of it was people trying to manipulate their armies low early to get easier 2nd and 3rd games but the more I think of it with only 3 rounds that would be to hard to do I think so swiss style may be the way to go.

I do like the points clarification as well thanks I may lift the cap and just make a 200pt min. If I end up with allot of 350, 350, 300 lists that is fine I want to give people the option to do something else though.

Keep the 1000 total for the tourney cap and the 100 point minimum. I'd be tempted to go 700, 200,100 in no particular order.

No I am changing the name he is running stuff at night and at first I thought it would be like from 7pm till some time past midnight but he dropped something from Sunday so now it will be a Sunday event. I think a minimn of 100 is a bit low I may drop it to 150 but I am thinking I will keep it at a minimum of 200 I do like the sugestions though and I may revise the exact missions as well a bit I plan on finalizing everything Monday. Ill let everyone know when he has it on the web site their is a cart on the sight for easy sign up once it is on the list of events.

So I think I will read something more like one list for each mission with 1000pts  and 36 spec ops points max to spend between the 3 missions with a 150 point min on each mission.
