How are you able to measure 8" to the mine (in picture B), but it isn't in your 8" ZOC?

Right. If the figure moved closer to the wall then it would be fine. Again I made a graphic to present this. Both of the below would be ok. One a building. The other a wall. Attachments:

Yes, those two examples are valid placements for the mine. In your previous picture, the 8" from the figure to the mine should also be in the ZOC, so it should also be a valid placement.

Oh yes. Actually it shouldn't of had the text for 8" to show that it was NOT okay because it was outside of ZoC.

The sphere's drawn clearly aren't the 8 inch zone of control if we assume that the minelayer and the mine are eight inches apart.
